Kōpī Bush Retreat

Boutique accommodation on the Chatham Islands

800km off the southeast coast of New Zealand lies the rugged and beautiful Chatham Islands.

Kōpī Retreat is a new, purpose built, fully off-grid home set on 1200 acres of farmland and native bush that overlooks the main township of Waitangi.

John and Bridget Preece built Kōpī Bush Retreat on the 1200 acres of farmland that John inherited from his family, land that has been in the family for many generations. The home is fully off-grid and their focus is on the restoration of their bush and preserving fish stocks for future generations.

John, a commercial diver for 39 years, is of Moriori and Māori descent and is one of 6 siblings, three of whom now own the farmland, bush and the quarry. Bridget, a mainlander, spent 15 years in Napier educating their children as there are no secondary schools on the Chatham’s.

Both John and Bridget are passionate about their land and the Chatham Islands and look forward to sharing their little slice of paradise with you.
