This 407-hectare reserve is a great example of peat-land forest that once covered most of the southern Chatham Island. Spectacular views from the southern cliffs, some nearly 200 metres high. Look out towards Pitt Island, Mangere and the Pinnacles.
There are also awesome views to be had of Te Whanga Lagoon and the volcanic basalt cones.
This walk is classified as “easy to moderate” walking on farm tracks.
The walk along the cliff tops has a few boggy patches, but from the reserve is mostly downhill. Walking time is approximately 3.5 hours.
Ask your host (when you book accommodation) to include a guided walk to Rangaika
